Simone remembered nothing, not even her youth.” In a box that once belonged to her mother, Hanna discovers mysterious notebooks, photographs and newspaper clippings, traces of a troubled past she knows nothing about. Following the documents, she travels up the Saint Lawrence River, from Montreal to Kamouraska, on a journey across the century and her own family history, back to 1914 and the sinking of the forgotten liner the Empress of Ireland.
