Summer 1976, on the Atlantic coast. Two children dream of faraway lands: Marin, thirteen, and Lisa, ten. Marin tells of the burning sand and of something he cannot quite name when he looks at Lisa and her mother, a former local beauty queen. Amid fishing trips and the scent of lemon trees, while the grown-ups disappoint and hearts are bruised, childhood quietly burns away, until the day Lisa learns to swim the backstroke.
